Accessibility overview / Access statement
All information and menus are available in large print format if requested, and of course we are more than happy to provide details over the telephone should this be preferred. We aim to ensure that our literature and website are in simple, clear language, using larger fonts where practical.
We will always endeavour to assist with access issues to the best of our ability, it should be noted however that our house is generally not suited for wheelchair users, and all of our guest accommodation is located on the first and second floors. We cannot offer ground floor accommodation and unfortunately there is no lift or stairlift. All toilet facilities are private and en-suite to each guest bedroom, and there is no access to a public toilet on the ground floor.
We regret that, unless left in a suitable vehicle overnight, we cannot accommodate dogs within our home due to family member allergies.
Llansabbath Country House is situated in a rural setting near the village of Llanover, Monmouthshire. The house is 1 mile along a country lane (with plenty of passing spaces) off the main A4042 road. We are only 3.7 miles by car from the centre of historic Abergavenny.
Parking and Gardens
We have private, off road, dedicated guest parking alongside the drive to the house, with extra spaces available in the courtyard should they be required. Parking is on a firm, stone chip and earth surface. There is ample room for 8 to 10 normal sized family cars. A level driveway and path lead to the front door, which is approximately 30 metres walk from the parking area.
The front and rear gardens, which guests are welcome to enjoy, are mostly lawned. There is level drive, courtyard and pathway access from the front of the house and the drive area, and via level courtyard and paved pathway to the rear of the house. Access to some of the front garden from the driveway, and the rear garden pond and patio area from the pathway is slightly banked, and those less mobile may need assistance.
Entry is via the main front door, there is a 5”/12cm step up to the door and porchway.
All internal doorways are at least 28 inches (71cm) wide and the front doorway, lounge door and dining room doorways exceed this. Floors in the guest areas of the ground floor are all level and carpeted.
The guest lounge has 2 comfortable sofas, a large coffee table, and a wood-burning stove. The conservatory dining room has 5 tables, seating 2 but can be placed together for 3-4 if needed. The chairs in the dining room have no arms.
All staircases and landings are carpeted, and overall they are even and level. There are some slight deviations from this, in stair or hallway height, level or depth, but this is to be expected in a building of this age. Each staircase has a hand rail on the right hand side.
From the ground floor hallway there are 12 stairs to the first floor landing (for access to Rooms 1 and 2), each stair measures approximately 8 inches (20cm) high and 10 inches (25cm) deep.
There are a further 3 slightly steeper stairs to the first floor half-landing (for access to Rooms 3 and 4), each stair measures 9 inches (23cm) high and 9 inches (23cm) deep.
There are a further 13 slightly steeper stairs to the second floor landing (for access to Room 5 and its additional suite room), each stair measuring 9 inches (23cm) high and 9 inches (23cm) deep. In this staircase there is a 90 degree turn to the right in the last 4 stairs.
Rooms 1 and 2 have baths with shower over. The bath side in each room is 22 inches (56cm) high and the baths incorporate grip handles on each side.
Room 3, 4 and 5 have showers. The step up into the shower tray is approximately 10 inches (25cm) high in each of these rooms.
Various local private hire taxis are available. These are usually best booked in advance of your planned journeys, and particularly so during the busy tourism months or when large events are taking place in and around Abergavenny.
The nearest train station is Abergavenny station, which is 2.8 miles away. Buses run regularly along the main A4042 both to Abergavenny and towards Cwmbran, although the lane itself is not supported by a bus route. The nearest bus stop is approximately 1 mile from the house.
